Definition

The total number of users using your website or app actively is referred to as active users. If a user has utilized the product's core(fundamental) value proposition, they are considered to be "active" users.

How is it useful?

Active users act as an indicator of knowing for many users are retained on a regular basis.
DAU→ Daily Active User WAU→ Weekly Active User MAU→ Monthly Active User

Example

In the year 2019 on average, WhatsApp was used by >500 million users on a day-to-day basis.
Simply opening & closing WA doesn’t count as DAU. It counts when users send messages & the like.
The people stopping by a store but making no purchase shouldn’t be counted as an ‘active user’. It’s the set of people who stop & buy something or the other.
